Compact washers ranked by filed efficiency (IMEF)
49 compact washers are on file. Ranked by filed IMEF inside each product class, the highest top-loading, compact IMEF is 1.49, shared by 14 models.
Scope Compact washers, top- and front-loading, ranked by filed IMEF inside each DOE product class; models at the federal minimum are counted, not ordered.
Top-loading, compact
36 models above the federal minimum, highest IMEF first; 12 more file exactly the minimum and are not ordered among themselves.

Front-loading, compact (1 above the minimum, 0 at it): fewer than eight models above the federal minimum, too few to rank.
How this list is ranked
One filed figure decides the order — IMEF, the cubic feet of laundry washed per kilowatt-hour, dryer included — inside one DOE product class at a time. Yearly kWh is not used to rank: DOE counts the same 295 cycles for every drum, so a bigger washer always shows more. Models that file the same IMEF share a rank, shown as =N. Models at the federal minimum are counted, not ordered; a class is ranked only when at least eight models sit above it and their IMEFs spread by at least 8%. Models named in a CPSC recall are left out.
