If you are checking the Maytag H18vB854(3B), it uses 481 kWh of electricity a year at DOE's test use. That figure assumes an electric water heater and dryer; water use at the same test use is 4,248 gallons a year. Its IMEF, the cubic feet of laundry washed per kilowatt-hour, dryer included, is 2.76, equal to its class median.
Energy and water per year
481 kWh a year with an electric water heater and an electric dryer
Computed by this site from the registry's IMEF and drum capacity at DOE's test use of 295 cycles a year. IMEF counts the washer, heating its water electrically, and the electric dryer's work on what the spin leaves wet — so this is the total for that kind of home. How it is calculated
The machine and its hot water alone, dryer not included: 128 kWh a year, as ENERGY STAR files it.
Not published: A home with a gas water heater, a gas dryer or line drying
DOE's rating assumes electric water heating and an electric dryer and files no split between the machine, the water heating and the drying.
Such a home uses less electricity than the total above; how much less, no registry says for this model.
4,248 gallons of water a year
Computed from the registry's IWF and drum capacity at the same 295 cycles a year.
Not published: What the water costs
water and sewer rates are set by thousands of local utilities and no free national source publishes them.
The gallons above are the figure to multiply by your own water and sewer rate.
This model is rated above the federal minimum IMEF for its class.

The 481 kWh figure is computed by this site from registry data; the registry does not publish it. It combines the registry's IMEF of 2.76 with a capacity, the drum's volume in cubic feet, of 4.5, at DOE's test use. Because IMEF counts the dryer, that yearly total includes the energy to dry each load in an electric dryer. ENERGY STAR files a separate machine-only figure of 128 kWh a year for this model at the same test use. That figure covers the washer and its electrically heated water alone, with the dryer left out. The difference between 128 kWh and 481 kWh is therefore the dryer's share of the yearly total. DOE data were retrieved on 2026-10-25; how the yearly energy and water figures are calculated is explained separately.

The 4,248 gallons yearly figure comes from the registry's IWF, the gallons of water used per cycle for each cubic foot of drum. For this model the IWF is 3.2, and this site multiplies it by the 4.5 cubic foot capacity at DOE's test use. A household running more or fewer loads than that test use would draw a different amount. A yearly water cost is not shown here, even though the gallon figure is. No free national source publishes local water and sewer rates, so any cost would be an estimate. Readers who know their own combined water and sewer rate can apply it to 4,248 gallons a year themselves.
This model is compared with the 360 models registered as front-loading washers of standard size. Its IMEF of 2.76 equals the class median of 2.76, and it ranks 101st highest IMEF of 360. In that class, 37 models sit at the federal minimum IMEF, and this model, sold as MHW5630H**, is rated above it. No running cost for its 481 kWh a year appears in this text; it depends on your own electricity tariff, so the page computes it from your ZIP. The installed price range appears in its own block, with its source and date, as a modeled range rather than a quote. Other models in the class are listed among all clothes washer pages.
