National Residential Efficiency Measures Database (REMDB)

The installed-cost regression (low/mid/high coefficients by UEF and nominal volume) behind this site's price-range block -- the only published source for a water heater's purchase-and-install cost.

License class
P — public domain / open Public domain-style permissive license; commercial use, modification and redistribution are free, but ATTRIBUTION IS REQUIRED and the names DOE/NLR/ALLIANCE may not be used to imply endorsement.
Attribution
Required. Installed-cost model from the National Residential Efficiency Measures Database (REMDB) v4.0.0, US DOE / National Laboratory of the Rockies / Alliance for Energy Innovation. Not an NLR-endorsed figure.
Fetch cadence
On release -- REMDB is a versioned dataset (v4.0.0, published 2025-04-03), not a rolling feed. Re-pulled when NLR ships a new version.
Last fetched
The file that stores this database's calibrated cost coefficients records the date it was pulled (2026-09-07, against REMDB v4.0.0) in a hand-written header rather than this project's standard machine-readable timestamp, so the date is transcribed by a person rather than parsed automatically.

Worth knowing

  • Seven of eight water heater classes have a REMDB model; Oil-fired Storage does not, so no price range is published for those three certified models.
  • The model calibrates over a bounded range per metric; a model outside that range gets no extrapolated price.
